Dominik was born in Nürnberg and studied chemistry at the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg, where he obtained his PhD in 2017 with Karsten Meyer (Chair of Inorganic and General Chemistry) developing molecular actinide and lanthanide electrocatalysts for H2O reduction to H2. After a short postdoctoral stint with F. Geoffrey N. Cloke (University of Sussex, UK), Dominik joined the lab of Jeffrey R. Long (UC Berkeley, USA) in 2018 as a Feodor Lynen Postdoctoral Fellow (Alexander von Humboldt Foundation) to study metal-organic framework materials (MOFs) for H2 storage and heterogeneous catalysis. In 2021 Dominik started his independent research group on molecular and MOF-based catalysts for H2-free direct electrocatalytic hydrogenation of organic substrates as a Liebig Fellow (Fonds der Chemischen Indusrie) at the AMC Chair of Roland A. Fischer at the Technical University of Munich. If not cooking MOFs or molecules, Dominik enjoys cooking fancy food, rock climbing, and mountaineering.
